This approach aims to manage work by balancing demands with available capacity, and by improving the handling of system-level&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bottleneck_(production)\">bottlenecks<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work items are visualized to give participants a view of progress and process, from start to finish\u2014usually via a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kanban_board\">Kanban board<\/a>. Work is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Push%E2%80%93pull_strategy\">pulled<\/a>&nbsp;as capacity permits, rather than work being pushed into the process when requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Knowledge_worker\">knowledge work<\/a>&nbsp;and in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Software_development\">software development<\/a>, the aim is to provide a visual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Business_process_management\">process management<\/a>&nbsp;system which aids decision-making about what, when, and how much to produce.
